Coming Up

Outer Banks Sentinel

Monday March 8, 2004

Monticello Road making its Outer Banks debut Thursday, March 11, at Kelly's in Nags Head, makes music that falls somewhere between the melodic, piano-driven rock of Bruce Hornsby and the Range and the improvisational, jazz-meets-Southern Rock-meets-blues fusion of the Allman Brothers Band.

The Charlottesville based quintet, Jason Marshall (bass), Josh Manzano (drums), Vaden Cox (lead guitar / vocals), Kyle Rannigan (vocals / rhythm guitar) and Adam Silvers (keyboards / saxophone / vocals), is on the road in support of their second full-length album, "This Scripted Show".

On stage, the three-year band plays a mix of originals and covers, including extended versions of songs by John Hiatt, Phish, Robert Earl Keen, the Allman Brothers, and Delbert McClinton. "We're traditional in a lot of ways," says Marshall, The Road's spokesman and spiritual leader. "But it's in our nature to be a jam band."

Monticello Road plays at 10pm at Kelly's.
